We need and deserve a strong representative in Congress. Steve Chabot is not that person.  Comments from the audience were more on the hostile side than friendly, and rightfully so. Congressman Chabot heard complaints about his voting record and his inability to get the message out to the people about what he is doing in Washington.

I asked him about the campaign signs I saw all over town in the fall of 2010 with his name and the slogan “Stop the Spending” and why the GOP led house has increased our national debt in just the last ten months, over $1 trillion in new spending. Again his excuse was that the White House and the Senate has blocked their efforts to get things done.  I agree that they have some high hurdles, but our economy, security and freedoms are riding on their efforts which are falling far short of expectations.

I told him that they need to stop letting the press be their mouthpiece by using press releases and go to the news media themselves and give their own time with an interview so that they can report first hand about the direction our country needs to go. I’m sure any local station in town would jump at the chance to have their congressional rep. as the headliner on the 6 pm news.

The stakes are to high and time is running out (if you consider what this country has become in the past several years) for our elected officials to conduct their business as they have done in the past.

The game is changing, and changing fast.  Is Steve Chabot up to the task?  Does he get it?

As we were duped yet again by our lawmakers in Washington, the Super Committee was unable to come up with a plan to cut $1.2 trillion from the budget over a ten year period. Yes you read it right, not a one year or five year, a ten year period.  During this same time frame the US government will have spent $45 trillion. Not a single member of Congress has the spine to tell the American people that when cuts are made, it will directly affect some of us, but in the long run, help us all. With a major election coming, no one wants to be the harbinger of bad news. Every decision they make is (while its under the guise of helping those in need or despair) weighed against the possibility of losing votes.

In the end, it’s the American people that lose because all solutions are for the benefit of the political status quo.

This is why we are meeting each month. The knowledge we gain will help us make educated decisions about our future. A future where the socialist left-wing wants us to be equal in all things. A future where Al Sharpton can enjoy his vision of having “equal things in all our houses.” Imagine that, a socialist society where we all have a more equal financial lifestyle. What they want is to have a piece of what capitalism has created. The wealth. Socialism creates no wealth.
If we were all no worse off than the next guy, the OWS people would just love that scenario. But then again, none of us would be any better off either. And in order for it to stay that way, we would have to be content with our situation indefinitely. Who wants to get up every day with the realization that your lifestyle will never change due to a system that guarantees a level of mediocrity that no matter how hard you try, you will never get ahead of the game. If you did, that would make you one of the evil rich people. This would leave government in the position to restrain your ability (through taxation and mandates) to pursue your happiness. Government restrains your inalienable rights.

People at the ower end of the economical spectrum will vote for this socialist scenario every time. This is the hope and change they were promised.
In a society where massive redistribution of wealth has occurred, and the playing field has been leveled, where does the money come from? Who has more than you so that you can earn a living through your services?
The truth of the matter is, that if anyone is lower on the financial ladder than you, you will have give up something for the sake of true equality.

The Occupy Wall Street crowd wants this type of equality. Barack Obama endorses OWS along with The Socialist Party USA, Nazi Party USA and Democrats in the House of Representatives.
Barack Obama said of conservatives last week “Their philosophy is simple, we are all better of when we are left to fend for ourselves and play by our own rules. I believe this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot. When everyone does their fair share. When everyone plays by the same rules.”
He was wrong about our philosophy. America needs limited government that does not restrict and limit us in our pursuit of happiness. And yes, everyone should do their fair share but he only applies that to the rich. Let’s hold him to his word that EVERYONE should do their fair share and EVERYONE plays by the same rules (i.e.) the Constitution.

Knowledge will forever govern ignorance.  Knowledge is power.

We discussed the steps we should take to make sure we can get through a financial meltdown. Storing food will become the number one priority as even cash can become worthless and supply lines of most goods may be stopped as a result. Electrical supplies could be interrupted as well as all people working in power plants and maintenance crews will all be busy keeping themselves supplied with food. The National Guard may be called upon to run our utilities. The same can be said for law enforcement and government services. Independence is the key to survival.

The Cost of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was a gift to this country symbolizing international republicanism. Republicanism asserts that people have inalienable rights that cannot be voted away by a majority of voters. A democracy. When we say The Pledge of Allegiance, we say “and to the republic for which it stands”, not to the democracy. We live in a republic. Although we believe in democratic law, the Rule of Law and clearly defined constitutional principles dictate the actual administration of government. “With Liberty and Justice for all.” Webster’s dictionary defines liberty as, a: the power to do as one pleases, b: freedom from arbitrary or despotic control, c: the positive enjoyment of various social, political, or economic rights and privileges, d: the power of choice.

We enjoy our liberties and freedoms purely through the limitations of our government, and not through the powers of the government.

An inscription on the Statue of Liberty written in 1883 by Emma Lazarus reads “Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free….”. This poem reinvented the statue’s purpose, turning Liberty into a welcoming mother, a symbol of hope to the outcasts and downtrodden of the world.
Our elected officials now want to impose a surcharge or duty for the privilege of residency in this country. The proposed health care bill requires each citizen to enroll and pay the premiums, or opt out and still pay $1900 per year just to be left alone.

The plaque on the Statue of Liberty should now read “Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free, your $1900 per year, and if not paid in full, face up to $25000 fine and one year imprisonment.” Where is choice and freedom now? This is the new cost of liberty.

We would be best served if the interstate restrictions placed on insurance companies were removed and the free market system was allowed to flourish as other industries do. Regulation is also needed to keep insurance companies honest and fair.

Keep in mind that free people can treat each other justly, but they can’t make life fair. To get rid of the unfairness among individuals, you have to exercise power over them. The more fairness you want, the more power you need. Thus, all dreams of fairness become tyranny in the end.

Our constitution guarantees us equal opportunity not equal results.

We have a job to do. We have a country to save. This is the least we can do since our children and grandchildren will be paying for our excesses.
